Pursuit is the kind of offensive action focused on closing with a retreating enemy, catching or cutting off what’s trying to escape, with the aim of destroying them. When a force breaks contact or is defeated and starts to withdraw, pursuit presses forward to prevent the enemy from regrouping or escaping through safer routes, concentrating force to finish the job quickly.

This fits the description because the objective is to halt the enemy’s escape and annihilate them, not just to breach a fortification, gain or reestablish contact, or move through friendly lines. A breach aims at penetrating a defensive position; movement to contact seeks to establish or renew contact with the enemy; passage of lines is about moving through friendly lines to reposition, not specifically to destroy a retreating force.
